New flight
The airline from Mérida will connect Campeche with the nearby cities of Ciudad del Carmen, Cancún and Cozumel, with two round-trip flights per week.
The international airport “Ing. Alberto Acuña Ongay” will receive this Friday from 9:50 am the twin-engine aircraft Dornier 228, manufactured in Germany and with 19 seats, of the MAYAir airline arriving from Mérida, Yucatán, which will connect with the neighboring cities of Campeche and Ciudad del Carmen, Cancun and Cozumel, with an annual average demand between 40.000 and 70.000 passengers.
In an interview, the Secretary of Tourism, Luis Augusto García Rosado, said that with two round-trip flights per week, one on Monday and another on Friday, the MAYAir airline will make easier the connection of national and international visitors to destinations on the peninsula.
“It´s an important achievement in the air connectivity with the Yucatan Peninsula, through with negotiations with MAYAir to extend the route to Campeche and Ciudad del Carmen, as the airline already had an air bridge between Merida, Cancun and Cozumel " he said.
"We want to attract Quintana Roo´s tourists, the most important point of inflow at national level, to complement the sun and beach tourism of that state with the attractions that Campeche offers, on routes where visitors can come to our city on Friday morning and stay the weekend to return on Monday, to generate an important economic revenue”, he quoted.
He said that MAYAir airline currently uses a fleet of Dornier 228 turbopropeller aircraft, manufactured in Germany with 19 seats.
He said that at the opening, the airline will announce the flight rates, but he advanced that they will be affordable, for example 500 pesos for a one-way trip from Campeche to the city of Mérida.
